Hello and good morning, from a definitely hotter, maybe-somewhat-wetter western Maine. My garden is happy, of course, since we're basically in a big greenhouse this month, but I've been enjoying the summer from both yard and couch, depending on the daily humidity.
Over the past weekend, The Wall That Heals — a traveling, 375-foot replica of the wall at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. — came to Farmington, thanks to a year of hard work by planners with the local American Legion and hundreds of volunteers.
The wall names more than 58,000 service members that were killed or went missing in action during the Vietnam War. The wall lists 340 Mainers, with 10 from Franklin County. It is the traveling memorial's only visit to Maine this year.
And, kudos to The Maine Monitor team for its haul of 10 awards from the National Newspaper Association Foundation. Among the stories recognized is a story on how Norridgewock has better prepared itself for future floods. |
