In Maine there's winter and then there's construction season. That certainly seems to be the case in my neck of the woods. And in Windham, where work on a $156 million middle school is underway — the most expensive public school project in the state to date.

What's behind that hefty price tag? Our education reporter Kristian Moravec donned a hard hat and toured the construction site to find out. You can read all about it in her story below, and explore her searchable database of state-funded construction projects.

We've of course also been following Trump's budget bill, and what it could mean for Maine. Our climate contributor Chris D'Angelo analyzed the impact on clean energy, and our health care reporter Rose Lundy is looking into the Medicaid cuts. Do you or your family rely on MaineCare? We'd love to hear your story.

Plus, an announcement: as part of our continuous effort to understand how people get their news and what they expect from it, we're embarking on a listening tour across Maine this summer — our first stop is in Norway, this Monday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Cafe Nomad. Join us if you can! And let us know if you want us to visit your community next.
