The election is over: yard signs are being pulled from the ground as some of the state’s final votes are being tallied. The closely watched 2nd congressional district race between Jared Golden and Austin Theriault is headed for a ranked-choice runoff after neither candidate got more than 50 percent of the votes.

In Franklin County, which grew its county commission board from three to five seats, voters elected a brand new slate of leaders: Thomas Saviello of Wilton, Fenwick Fowler of Farmington, Thomas Skolfield of Weld, Robert Carlton of Freeman Township, and Jeffery Gilbert of Jay. Now’s a good time to revisit our Maine Monitor story about what this shift says about the changing region.

And here are the results of western Maine’s state Senate races: Russell Black, a Republican from Wilton, was reelected; Richard Bennett, a Republican from Oxford, was reelected; James Libby, a Republican from Standish, was reelected; Bradlee Farrin, a Republican from Norridgewock, was reelected; Joseph Martin, a Republican from Rumford, won Lisa Keim’s seat; and Scott Cyrway, a Republican from Albion, flipped District 16.

Who donated to Jared Golden and Austin Theriault?:

A Maine Monitor analysis of FEC data finds the majority of Golden’s individual contributions came from out of state, while Theriault’s were more evenly split.
