Good morning from the shores of Gouldsboro, where the tourist season is at full throttle.

Ferries need to be booked ahead. Visitors wanting to drive up to the summit of Cadillac Mountain should reserve a spot as well. Restaurants, pubs, and roadside stands have packed parking areas. The hospitality business is alive and well as travelers cover great distances to capture a quintessential Maine photo they can relish on their screensavers all year. The rest of us — pinch, pinch — get to live here all the time.

Less obvious to those not familiar with our scenic communities is the continuing work going into repairing destruction caused by violent twin storms in January and March.

It reminds us that all of this beauty is fragile and we need to do everything we can to protect it for future generations.
